Watergrill certainly screwed the pooch last night...brilliant recovery

Went before the Ahmanson (Caroline, or Change – great production) the restaurant looked beautiful and service was perfection every step of the way. Seated in a large booth near the kitchen – I brought in an unreleased 03 clos pepe chard (santa rita) which they put a quick chill on and ordered nice little gigondas.

Ordered the house salad with the mustard vinaigrette, crab cake, steelhead and the peppercorn crusted NY – starters were yummy, god I love that crab cake and the salad was also very good with a nice tart dressing. Mains came; presentation was out of this world, nice peppercorn crust on the NY - sliced into the steak, which I ordered medium and yikes! it was scorched – I mean well done to the point of no return. I motioned over one of our servers and he was blown away – apologies started flying, can we make you another steak, we will take it off the bill, on and on – we wanted to get to the theater on time, so opted to eat the, well, prime beef jerky – and I can only imagine what it would taste like under normal conditions, really a wonderful dish.

Then they offered up (very insistent @ this point) desert – ok, I caved and had the cheese plate and the cheesecake – both outstanding, the cheesecake was totally different and delicious. During all this the manger came by and apologized the sommelier came by and apologized and anyone else that heard of the mishap, unreal – I mean accidents happen and I certainly did not make a fuss over this. This is truly an outstanding establishment, if it was not so pricey I would most certainly visit more often, the wine list is pretty good, but its difficult to fork over $ 110 for the smoke southing when I just had it for half that price @ Grappolo – the corkage is $ 20 I think and they wave it if you get another bottle from them, and to their credit there are a number of half’s that quality. Awesome restaurant only made better by a professional staff that really cares – I look forward to my return.
