San Francisco hound coming to NO for 3 nights the week before Jazz Fest starts up. We are driving (eating our way) cross country from FL to CA and really looking forward to our time in NO. Since it's our first time in the area, we're staying in the FQ but don't mind exploring for food and interesting places. I've been reading this board for a few weeks and have some places we want to experience. But since we are on a kind of long trip, we want more casual and affordable places that have great food. Here's the places I've discovered so far on this board. Any other suggestions or places I should avoid?
Breakfast: Cafe DeMonde, Old Coffee Pot
Lunch: Uglesich's, Gumbo Shop, NOLA, Central Grocery
Dinner: Jacques-Imo's, Mr. B's, Upperline
Lunch or Dinner: Acme Oyster, Red Fish Grill, Casamento's
I've read good and bad things about Jacques-Imo's, is it overrated or should I make a point of going? I've cecked out the menu and it looks great.
Also, I heard crawfish season is in April. Where is a good place to experience a crawfish boil? We'll also be driving down in Southern LA to checkout the Tobasco plant and going up through Lafayette. Where is "the place" to stop while in this area?
