I will be visiting Vancouver for a week in early October for an indulgent solo vacation and am looking for your recommendations on where to eat and what to do while I'm in town. I'm staying in downtown Vancouver on Robson. I will be relying on public transportation, but am willing to go as far afield for good food as that allows. I arrive on Monday afternoon and leave early Sunday. I am looking for recommendations for 6 dinners (Monday - Saturday) and 5 brunches/lunches (I do NOT plan to wake up early while I'm in town unless there is someplace REALLY worth it). I like all kinds of food and am looking to try some of the best Vancouver has to offer. I'm budgeting for 2 truly spectacular dinners and 4 more moderate ones and assuming that all of the brunches/lunches will be on the higher than average side cost-wise.
For lunch, I would like to do Dim Sum one day because I know that Vancouver has some of the best dim sum anywhere, but I know this is typically more of a group activity. Are there any dim sum spots that are particularly amenable to solo diners (that also have great food)? Based on recommendations I've seen on the boards, I already have high tea booked at the Fairmont Vancouver for Tuesday. I would also consider food tours as a substitute for lunch one day. Are there any that you recommend?
Besides eating out, I would also love other suggestions for things to do while I'm in Vancouver. Are there great tea shops (I am partial to green teas and would love to take some home with me) / chocolatiers (who doesn't love good chocolate) / wine shops or tasting rooms (particularly ice wines) / markets (I'm already planning on spending time at the Granville market - anyplace in particular I should visit there) that I should visit while I'm in town?
Thank you in advance for your great recommendations. I will let you know where I go and my experiences when I get back.
