I'm a regular poster to the LA board and am in need of your assistance!
I'm looking for an excellent coal oven pizza in NYC. Now I should let you know that a few years back, I trekked out to Grimaldi's, in the shadow of the brooklyn bridge, with my lamenting sister who thought it was too far to go for pizza, when there are so many good local joints in her park slope-adjacent neighborhood. But I assured her, this would be worth it. After waiting 45 mins for a table and suffering thru my sisters griping. we were seated. I think we ordered a 1/2 mushroom pizza. I was expecting nirvana, but sadly what we got was really disappointing. Soggy, limp crust. Decent flavor, but the crust couldn't stand up to the toppings! Incidentally I looked around, and it seemed that everyone in our area had floppy crust pizza as well.
So... I need to give coal oven pizza another shot, though unfortunately I don't know if Grimaldi's is in the cards.
Your advice on where and how I can be guaranteed a divine coal oven pie? I'd hate to go through that Grimaldi's disappointment again!
