got takeout tonight from VIP Chinese (3300 block of W. Montrose) and was curious whether others have had better experiences.
On the positive side, the food was ready 10 minutes after I ordered it and, had I been dining in, I would have enjoyed the clean, tastefully decorated dining room.
Unfortunately, the food didn't match the room. Hunan chicken was served on the bone, which I liked, but turned out to be a greasy, breaded mess reminiscent of the barely edible wings from college days - good only with a six pack or two of Old Milwaukee. The breading was soggy, not crispy, and made me think the cook had forgotten to turn up the fryer and just let 'em soak in tepid oil for a few minutes. Beef with mushrooms was gelatinous and bland.
