Had lunch at the new Vietnamese Food Court today, this is the second time I have been and see an improvement in service and ordering procedure from my first visit. I had, as does seemingly every other Chowhound who goes there, a bowl of Bun Bo Hue. The Bun Bo Hue was excellent, incredible depth of flavor, wonderful bits of mystery offal, thin sliced red onion, noodles and a smallish fresh pork hock. This was also served with a dish of fresh herbs, thin sliced jalapeno, lime and bean sprouts.
The only small wrinkle was the pork hock could have used another 2-3 hours of simmering, it was quite chewy and virtually impossible to remove any of the meat without picking it up and gnawing.
I also had an appetizer of Bo Bia Ho, fresh rice paper wrapped around aromatics, bean sprouts and small slices of Chinese sausage. This was served with a dipping sauce and was also quite good. Next time out I think I will try the egg crepe as I saw them being made on the interesting gas fired clay pot cookers.
All in all the Vietnamese Food Court is not quite what I expected, I thought it would be more individual food kiosks, but a nice addition to the Argyle Street area nonetheless.
Speaking of Bun Bo Hue, the version at Dong Thanh is excellent as well. Titus Wong posted about Dong Thanh, specifically the Bun Bo Hue, Hu Tieu Dong Thanh and Hu Tieu Mi Tieu Chau, all of which I have eaten and enjoyed based on Titus's posting recommendations.
