Victor's Falafel, Natick- the real deal

This little shop is on Rt.9 Westbound, just past the Oak Street intersection with flags from Armenia, Lebanon and the US above the door. I have driven by for a while and today finally I stopped in.

Per the owner's recommendation, I ordered a "Gyro Makanek Beef and Lamb with Vegetables" wrap. It's the real deal. Well spiced, flavorful and large enough to be quite filling. The meat was a combination of Armenian Soujoukh- a type of sausage as well as lamb. But the key for me was the pickles he used, not just a regular dill pickle, but fine, narrow pickled cucumbers. The fresh vegetables were also well balanced, as he added fresh mint to the tomatoes and onions.

It's the real deal as in I could have been in Beirut, Montreal or Detroit where such a sandwich is expected (I've found the other bakeries in Watertown are totally sub-par to these cities.) To find this quality in Natick was a great surprise.

While waiting for my sandwich, the owner chatted about his past as a cook in Lebanon, and his family's bakery and distribution business. He didn't have to impress me with his story, or tell me there are usually lines for his sandwiches.... He should have just served me my sandwich and that spoke quite loudly on its own right.

Oh, and get the mint flavored Tahn (yogurt drink) it is amazing too.
