Have you ever been to Vic? Well then I'm sure that you've heard about our pubs. I'll make it short and sweet, and just list a few of my favorites. The menu's are all pretty much your typical pub fare, with each varying to their own style.
#1 in my book and always will be, The Monkey Tree, which is in Saanich. Before my son was born, my husband and I went there every Friday night, (or so it seemed). Don't leave there without trying the dry pepper wings with curry dip. It doesn't come with curry dip, so don't forget to ask. The dip it comes with is a hot pepper dip, so the difference is quite profound.
#2 Christie's Carraige House. It's in Oak Bay, and has amazing food. If you enjoy a poached halibut burger like I do, this one's awesome. Tartar sauce instead of mayo, poached halibut, raw, red onion, tomato and alphalpha sprouts. I can do without the tomato, but everything else is great. The only downfall is that this pub is a tad more expensive than the other pubs.
#3 Maude Hunter's which in Gordon Head. This is a sports type pub with very good food. It's close to UVIC, so there is typically a younger crowd, but not restricted to.
#4 The Sticky Wicket. This is a great pub for tourists. It is located plop downtown and has 3 floors. Yes, three floors. It has 2 or 3 pool tables, and a rooftop patio with a beach volleyball court! Try that after a few pints! It also adjoins to Big Bad John's which is a lot of fun too. The food is average, but the atmosphere is nice and relaxing. Very British Pub like. Hence the name.
#5 Spinnachers. Expensive, but close to downtown, and good food.
#6 Swans. I personally have never gone there to eat. But the drinking atmosphere on a Friday or Saturday night rocks. Very yuppy though.
O.K. so I didn't make it short and sweet, but once I got started, I couldn't stop.
