Hubbie and I enjoyed our visit to your amazing city. We ate food for which there aren't even comparables in Austin, Texas. We enjoyed Nirvana (thanks Ms. Pizza) and Greens and the Miditerranee. Had to miss alot of others. Must return soon.
Our 1st day in No. Cal. we drove to Santa Cruz and stopped at the Davenport Cash Store for some terrific soups, vegetable and clam chowder, perfect for a blustery day by the Pacific. But the real find was Omei's, a must visit Chinese resaurant in a drab strip-mall on the way into town (on Highway 1). They begin the dinner with a tray of "Small Plates", not on the menue, for $3 or $4 each. About half the entree selections are vegetarian. Everything is very imaginative. How do you choose between "chicken with sweet potatos and black dates" and "chicken with dried apricots and almonds"? Answer: get both. There are these tofu balls that come a variety of ways, but the one with lychee nuts was the first lychee nut dish that ever made sense to me. If anyone goes and wants to chat back to me about the place, I'm at the Texas chat board.
