I cannot say enough about the extraordinary dining experience that I found nestled in the Belgrade Lakes Region of Maine. Both the Inns cozy and intimate atmosphere (a roaring fire in the Inns Great Room) and its creative and delectable menu helped create a very enjoyable evening.
The Inn typically serves a five course meal and changes the menu weekly to reflect the freshest local ingredients. The meal started with a tomato chutney and goat cheese tart with balsamic syrup, which was out of this world. I then had a cauliflower and coriander puree, while my boyfriend ordered the Maine shrimp bisque with sherry. We were then served a salad, which was followed by the entrée. I had the pan fried lobster and scallop cakes with whole grain mustard sauce and mashed potatoes with greens, while my boyfriend had the quail stuffed with proscuitto de parma, fresh mozzarella and red peppers over risotto. Both entrees were delicious and my boyfriend cannot stop talking about the shrimp bisque. The very aesthetically pleasing presentation of all of the courses practically rivaled the exceptional flavors of the foods themselves.
Between the entrée and dessert, Chris the co-owner/chef came out to greet his guests. He was very friendly and his enthusiasm for both the Inn and its food was quite palpable. Overall, it was outstanding dining experience and I am eagerly anticipating a return visit.
