Valentine's Day Dinner for after Valentine's Day

Due to a long-planned trip, my SO will be out of town on Valentine's Day, so we're opting to go out to dinner one day early next week instead. The problem is that we can't figure out where to go.

I initially suggested Opus, on the UES, but it was deemed "not special enough." We were also looking at the price-fixe menu at Bello Sguardo on the UWS, but my gluten-free self found that a bit too limiting/challenging.

So what I'm looking for is suggestions for places that would be "special," but also fun, with food that I can safely eat on a gluten-free diet. He lives on the UWS and I'm in the East Village/Alphabet City, so somewhere in or close to one of those two areas would be ideal, but we're also willing to travel within Manhattan if it's easily accessible by subway or bus. Entrees that are $25 or under would be great. We're both big seafood fans (we loved Ocean Grill a few weeks ago) and he's not too big on red meat. He's not the biggest fan of Indian food, and I'd prefer not to go for Italian food unless they have a gluten-free menu like Opus does. I like tapas-style food, and I don't know if he's ever tried it, so I was thinking Alta might be fun.

So, Chowhounders, where should we go? Any suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
