Now that I'm an A&H regular, I like stop by Vace Italian Deli afterwards. This week, I picked up Parmesan Cheese, fresh Italian sausage, frozen gnocchi, frozen pumpkin agnoletti, frozen eggplant parmesan, a 1.5lb. can of sardines packed in salt ($16.50), and six slices of fresh pancetta, which I'll dice up and freeze individually.
What else is good at Vace? Anything I'm missing? How are the sauces? Pizza dough? Is the Mortadella fresh?
They do not, however, carry San Marazano(?) canned tomatoes. In fact, all I saw was Sun of Italy and Pomi(?). Where do Washington/Maryland hounds buy these? Are they worth the price? Is there a particular brand name that I need to look out for?
Not that Mario Batali is the final authority, but I heard him say that that is all he uses, even in summer when fresh may be available.
