The fantastic Greenmarket that was displaced by the construction of a new subway entrance at 72nd and Broadway will reopen at a different location.
According to the NY Observer, it will now be at the triangle between Bwy and Amsterdam, between 65 and 66 streets (between July 12 and the end of December.)
I personally cannot wait. It was a very small market but it had great vendors: one farmer had the best tomatoes and spinach I ever got at any Greenmarket; the mushroom stall had fresh cepes and chanterelles and hen of the woods and all sort of other mushrooms; Ronnybrook dairy was there too with wonderful creme fraiche; one farmer had the sweetest yellow, red or orange watermelon; and another family had that rare thing: UNpasteurized fresh apple cider (and also great elderflower jelly.)
Three years have passed so I wonder if any of them will return, but even with different farmers, it's bound to be great news.
