Dinner was excellent last night; choices were as follows:
- Zucchini salad w. sprinkling of feta, olives
- Bluefish (grilled, i think?)
- Hangar steak, with whipped potatoes and spinach
- Bread pudding w/ toasted marshmallow ice cream
We arrived at 8pm, the place was jumping. Service was initially a bit slow, but that was ok, we wanted to take our time anyway. Started out with 2 delicious glasses of Jed Steele Shooting Star Pinot Noir, very very good. $9/glass. Noticed the all-american list of wines by the bottle was not inexpensive - I don't think there was a bottle of red available for under $40.
I tried the gazpacho; it was a pureed soup - bursting with rich flavors of summer - very good. Companion had the zucchini salad, beautiful presented with ribboned zucchini, sprinkled with the feta, olives and some sort of vinagraitte, very good.
We both ordered the hangar steak, MR, plates were both cleaned. They were a bit on the rarer side of MR, but I suppose we'd rather have it a bit underdone that overdone.
Dessert was excellent. I could have had about 5 more scoops of that toasted marshmallow ice cream; there were little crackly bits of sugar sprinkled on top of the pudding and throughout the ice cream, flavors all melded together for a really extraordinary sensation.
All in all, an enjoyable meal for $30.04. Everything was prepared well; I would not have minded perhaps another entree option, but we were happy with the steak. I wanted to try that bluefish, but....just decided to play it safe. Service picked up after initially being a bit slow, which, again, was fine.
I'd like to go back and hang at the bar, maybe try some of those highly recommended appetizers.
