Uncle Moki's Hawaiian Shrimp Review

So my friend saw some signs for a Hawaiian shrimp place and we decided to check it out today. Turns out there is an equivalent of Oahu's North Shore shrimp truck's right here in LA! It's been open since January and it's at the end of a strip mall across the street from the Target on Rodeo and La Cienega, next to Taco Bell. They serve Hawaiian style garlic shrimp 'scampi.' The owner was actually a part owner of Giovanni's shrimp truck on the North Shore. It's a small restaurant with about 5 tables with some Hawaiian decor - they play the nice Hawaiian music in the background, pictures of the King and Queen on the walls, old Hawaiian magazines on the tables, video of tourists in Hawaii hehe . . .

Now onto the food, you can get 5 shrimp with 1 scoop of rice for $6 or 10 shrimp with 2 scoops of rice for $12. Or you can get it volcano style - very spicy! We ordered the regular 'Aloha plate' 10 shrimp, 2 scoops of rice, and actually asked to try the Volcano sauce on the side. It definitely had a kick! The shrimp were good size, succulent with lots of garlic flavor, also kind of on the greasy side . .. but that's how it's supposed to be. The rice is topped with some garlic as well . . . don't expect to kiss anyone afterwards ;) It's probably not as good as the truck's in Hawaii, but it's still pretty good.

And unfortunately the ice cream they serve is a Klondike bar, and not macadamia nut ice cream or shaved ice.

Overall, it was a nice find. We now have a Hawaiian shrimp truck in LA!
