I'm gonna put my vote in for Uncle Moe's(14 W.19th St) as being the closest thing to a decent California burrito that NYC has to offer. Here's why:
1.Salsa Bar. this is key. they have a choice of at least three salsa's which are decent and fresh. Chopped Cilantro and Onion as well. There's never enough Cilantro in the Mexican food here.
2.Shape. They roll the burrito into a round cylinder. burrito's shouldn't look like your grandma's pillow, all flattened out so you have to eat it with a knife and fork. roll em tight! So you and the burrito can become one.
3.Chile Colorado. rarely seen on the East Coast.
4.Homage. they have some photographs of Los Angeles Taqueria's on the wall. Good temple's to worship.I like this touch.
I think this place beats Benny's and Cosmic Cantina and just about all the other places in Lower Manhattan.Anyone else?
