Uncle Darrow's Gumbo

Just Larry | Sep 22, 2002 04:25 PM

After all of the praise here, I tried Uncle Darrow's Gumbo today. The soup (roux) was excellent but for $11.00 I got half a chicken wing, half a tiny crab that had been cooking for hours, 2 small shrimp, some pieces of sausage and lots of rice. I must admit that I finished the last bit of the soup but what is the big deal? The Gumbo at Stevie's on the Strip is so far superior that they should not even be called by the same name. At Stevie's there were big pieces of chicken, sausage, crab, lots of shrimp, and other fish too. Now that was some good Gumbo and a whopper of a hearty meal. Everything was perfectly cooked too.

One thing that has to be said in its favor is that it is the best Gumbo in Culver City.
