Non-UES type (from LA) staying UES May--solo dinner ideas?

Pat | Mar 31, 2004 06:20 PM

Got a really good deal on a corp. studio at 80th/Madison. A friend will be coming and staying with me overnight for 2 days, but will be alone for 3. Am female, 50ish, casual style (live in Santa Monica, what can I say). I do like good food. Of course I don't need to eat UES. Any ideas for where a woman eating solo, not too dressed up, will feel comfortable and eat really, really well? (I do dress up when the occasion demands, but it doesn't demand much these days in L.A., I'll tell you). I love the Village, so don't mind going down there. Haven't been to New York in (gulp) 20 years. Have become a recent Chowhound adherent in L.A. and am a huge fan now and tell all my friends! Thanks New Yawkers!
