Turned away from Mother's Day brunch at Ecco Qui (recovered at 20 Manning)

I suspect that it would not be on many true Chowhounds' lists anyway, but here is a warning about Ecco Qui. We decided on Saturday to go out for Mother's Day bruch in Philly the next day and ended up making reservations at Ecco Qui near 30th Street Station (RX and other A-list choices were, of course, full up when I called.) The person I spoke with at Ecco Qui told me to pick a time, and when I said 11:00 a.m. he said fine and took my name, but did not request a phone number. I expressed surprise that they were not fully booked for Mother's Day and he confirmed that there was no probem with 11 a.m. When we arrived a few minutes after 11 a.m. on Sunday, the hostess told us that the restaurant could not accommodate us because it was preparing to host a private party at noon in connection with the Penn graduation. When we protested that we held a reservation, she said that (1) they had no record of any such reservation (although she refused to look in the book) and (2) that they had called some of the people who had made reservations to let them know that the reservations had been canceled. They could not have been less apologetic or less helpful. We then drove around looking for a restaurant, a pretty dismal situation for a Mother's Day celebration, and hit upon 20 Manning. We were warmly welcomed and the brunch was excellent, with great service and a choice of made-to-order entrees accompanied by a buffet that mixed ho-hum selections with a few knock-outs in upscale surroundings.
