After reading the posts here, I finally went to Tsuruhashi last night to see what it was all about. I had never even heard of Japanese BBQ before so I was very curious to try it out.
We went at about 7pm and there weren't very many people there but the smell of grilled meat welcomed me.
I ordered Prime rib eye, short ribs with bone, kim chee sampler and bibimbap in stone hot pot.
The prime rib eye was delicious and so well marbled! I thought the short ribs with bone was going to be like the Korean short rib kalbi but it was the meat sliced off of two short ribs with the two bones on a platter. The bones were great for gnawing after being grilled!
It is hard to say which of the two dipping sauces they serve was better but they both complemented the meat nicely.
I was still hungry so we ordered the outside skirt steak. Wow! That rivaled the Prime rib eye in tenderness and flavor!
The bibimbap was a good accompaniment to the meat dishes but the kimchee wasn't the best I've had for my taste.
Then we had green tea ice cream to top off the meal - yum!
Dinner for two was about $50, a little higher than I usually pay for dinner but I don't get to eat such quality meats very often so this was really a treat!
The service was good and I am definitely going back for more!
