tropical taste restaurant

i just had a very hearty and satisfying lunch at the new (2d) tropical taste. its a single storefront, clean with A/C and white tablecloths. the lunch menu is significantly cheaper than the dinner menu, so i will probably be returning for lunch. i had a bowl of stewed chicken and potatoes with yellow rice (side salad of iceberg, tomatoes). the rice was extremely tender and plump and sucked up the terrific tomato based sauce. my friend had a half rotisserie chicken which filled her plate with a huge mound of white rice on another plate. each dish cost $5.50. my friend has had dinner there twice and says she had generous portions of shrimp. the dinner prices go as high as $35(!) for their seafood combination(not-described on the menu), to a low of $8 for pork chops with mushrooms or steak and onions. most of the dinners are around $14. an inexpensive, family run restaurant on the edge of wicker park is most welcome by me, and i hope it does well. we were the only customers at noon, with 2 other tables full by the time we left.
