Cost 69 euro for lunch – fixed menu (29 euro each) with 2 glasses of wine
As we were paying we notice that on the chalkboard inside there was also another option for the day (can’t remember what they called it) but it was 13 euro and had different choices and no dessert – just a starter and a main.
Reservations: Honestly I have no idea. I’m guessing yes as they did make you see the host inside to be seated (as opposed to just grabbing an open table outside which is the custom at so many cafes and such). We did get seated no problems for lunch but the place was PACKED inside. We sat outside as it had just finished raining – I’m assuming everyone who was outside moved inside or they just didn’t seat them outside but we were fine.
We were heading down to the Luxembourg Gardens to walk around and it was relatively on the way (not really far from the gardens either – an easy walk if you’re headed that way).
Would I recommend it? Maybe - I was only there for lunch
I was very happy with my food. I’m not sure it was worth the 69 euro and I have trouble recommending lunch places in general. As an American we don’t do big lunches so spending that much on lunch is just counter cultural to me I think. I certainly would not not recommend it (note the double negative for you scanning this). I wish I had seen the other lunch option for 13 euros, I probably would have ordered that and been happier (but who knows, I may have hated the main on that menu).
For the foodies:
Starter: Artichoke Soup with Peanuts (we both had the same)
Honestly I never thought of artichokes and peanuts. I loved the combination and am curious how else I can combine those two things other than in soup. Very happy with that choice.
Main: Braised Lamb
If you’ve been reading all these, you’ll see I like lamb in Europe and this one was just as good. Again, none of that gaminess that I associate with some lamb I get in America. It was lamb that was deboned, rolled, tied, and braised. It tasted like a lamb “osso bucco” (one of my favorite dishes of all time) and had a nice side salad with it.
Main: Roasted Pig (my husband’s dish as he explained it to me)
He loved it. Again, some sort of deboned pork, stuffed with pork, rolled, tied, and I would say poached not roasted as there was no color on the outside of the roll – and served in a cream sauce (his favorite thing is a cream sauce). He was very happy.
Dessert: Strawberries with Pistachio Ice Cream
Dessert: Rhubarb compote with white chocolate mouse (husband)
He liked it . . . He loves the tartness of rhubarb and so often that is masked with sweetness, which disappoints him. So the white chocolate mouse was too sweet for him.
Clearly a very popular restaurant. The food was very good, just a bit much for me for lunch. I may have been too full that day for this much – I shouldn’t have done the full fixed menu – my mistake, not theirs. I would have been very happy with just may main (though then I would have missed out on learning about the peanut/artichoke flavor combination – so a fair trade in my opinion).
