Want to followup and give feedback on our 5th wedding anniversary trip to NYC last weekend. After many dilemma, and after much research we settled on Friday night at Brooklyn Fare & Saturday night at Eleven Madison Park. We had plans during the day, so settled on something simple during the day.
-Friday, we ended up eating at The Little Owl for lunch. Simple lunch, but enjoyed the view of the owl across the street, charming place. Food was solid, nothing fancy, but we were looking forward to dinner!
-Friday night, Brooklyn Fare. This was shortly after Chef Cesar scored his 2 Michellin Star. I was lucky enough to get through to Heidi, and score 2 seats just a week before...Got there a bit early, never been to the old kitchen, but the new kitchen is really nicely set up, great new kitchen appliances, etc. The dinner started promptly at 6:30pm with half of the 18 guest present for the first sitting. We started with about 10 canapes, lots of them fish items. Can't recall all of them, but they were AMAZING. My wife, who normally does not eat raw fish/sashimi, really enjoyed all the different fish and sauces. Then the 10 main courses were equally impressive. It was great to get a front row view of Cesar and his 2 assistants putting the fish together. Again, without going into each specific dish, we were completely blown away. There were a total of ~20 dishes. They are still waiting for their alcohol license, so it was still a BYOB, and everyone enjoyed that.
-Saturday night, Eleven Madison Park. This place blew us away in a completely different way then Brooklyn Fare the night before. The service was amazing. We did the 5 course, I picked (Sea Urchin, Sole, Venison, Duck & Chocholate), my wife did the (Foie Gras, Prawn, Duck, Apple). Each course was beautifully presented, and tasted amazing. We had a few small dishes that were served by the Line Cooks from the kitchen. They seemed a bit nervous, but was pleasant to meet. The service was amazing, and the food was equally impressive. We asked to tour the kitchen ,and they were able to arrange that, and had a surprise for us for our 5th wedding anniversary, an extra desert dish preserved in front of us in the kitchen by one of the pastry cooks! We ended the evening equally impressed with EMP & BF. They were both excellent in such different ways. BF Was such a fun experience, like nothing else we've seen, and EMP was at the same time equally impressive as far as quality of food, with unparalleled service.
Again, these 2 meals were probably 2 of the most memorable meals of our lives.
Wanted to try Momofuku ko, but given our time constraints, unable too (even though i had scored lunch reservations, had to cancel given our schedules!)...I would imagine Momofuku Ko is comparable to BF, although having Cesar there directly preparing all the dishes, can't beat that...
