Regular Chowhounders will recall that I excoriated both Annie's Old-Fashioned Trattoria and Pizzeria and Valentino's within the last few weeks. Well, it turns out they share the same ownership. I haven't tried Annie's (recall that I walked out after a contretemps with the maitre d') but I looked over the menu the other day: very pricey, with pasta dishes in the $15 range and meat and fish dishes in the $20 range. I would happily pay these prices if the food were good, but the affiliation with Valentino's does not inspire my confidence.
Can anyone report on La Farm Bakery in Cary? Apparently it's overseen by a legitimate French master baker. I can't remember the fellow's name, but I read about him in Maggie Glezer's excellent "Artisan Baking Across America." I will definitely be making a trip before long.
Finally, I hear that a Fowler's Gourmet Store is opening in Fearrington Village.
