Rubee, Ernesto and I met up for some quick bites and cocktails at Tremont 647 last night. The air-conditioning was a nice welcome to the somewhat humid heat outside (we sat inside, although they did have few tables set up outside on the sidewalk). A beer and a few tall glasses of water really helped to cool me down too.
R&E had a cocktail and a glass of wine and eventually we decided to order the "647 Mac N Cheese" which was described on the menu as "lobster cream, crawfish tails, Ritz crumb topping" (one order each). Ernesto also ordered a burger off the Sorel menu and I also ordered the wings with a black bean sauce off the same menu.
The mac and cheese was good, served in a mini cast iron skillet, with abundant crawfish tails (Louisianna, as opposed to Chinese for those interested). It was however, dry. The dish almost tasted like they had substituted oil or butter for the lobster cream sauce b/c I couldn't taste the lobster at all.
The wings were pretty tasty, albeit nothing super special. 6 trimmed drummets with a faint black bean taste, accompanied by a bit of sauce. Like I said, good, but I should have tried something else.
I like 647, but next time I think I'll shoot for the regular menu.
Oh, the bartender serves a wonderful gin and tonic.
