Travelin' Joe's Home Cafe in Berkeley

A great addition to the Berkeley breakfast scene. This place (Grayson @ 7th St.) used to be an intriguing looking if slightly scary cafe featuring "workingman's lunch", but has been done over by Travelin' Joe, who also operates a catering service, and is now comfortable and pleasant and fits perfectly into the West Berkeley neighborhood.

Breakfast is served all day (open 7:30-3 weekdays), and it's great and unfussy - my favorite is the breakfast sandwich, just greasy enough on an Acme roll with bacon or sausage patties and 2 eggs. Never tried the chili cheese corn waffle, but I must note that you can get the corn waffle topped with either vegetarian 3 bean chili or beef chili. They seem to specialize in waffles, including a waffle sandwich, and make their own corned beef hash. A friend approved of the cobb salad for lunch, but I haven't really checked out the lunch menu as I'd rather eat breakfast any time of the day.

Their brewed coffee is the best around (imho). They roast it themselves, and the owner plans to roast enough to sell beans in the future.
