I'm hesitant to post, but I imagine a number of others here crossed paths with Mike here in the restaurant and wine world.
Mike Bonaccorsi passed away last night, as is being confirmed. There's a piece on the Wine Spectator site about him.
He was sommelier at Spago for some time and has gone on to pursue the passion of making wine, which he had quite abit of recent success with. We weren't friends, but I remember from his Spago days that he was extremely knowledgeable, yet gracious and open to help out people with any level of interest in wine. It encouraged people like me, new to wine at the time, to become enthusiastic about enjoying and learning about the world of wine and of wine-food pairing. It's stunning to lose someone of such youth. Thoughts have to go out to his family and good friends around town.
