In the top 5 thread below, I was really surprised to see how many posters included Tito's Tacos. I'm from NYC, and when I moved here, I tried Tito's twice-mainly due to the big line outside.
I tried both the burritos and the tacos. I threw them both away, finding them worse than the type of homemade mexican that I encountered back east (supermarket taco shells and mix, ortega or something along those lines). Americanized mexican food.
I can understand how people growing up in LA might enjoy it - most of us love food from our childhood.
But to inflict this pain on a visitor to LA is true torture. It is, IMO, representative of the worst of LA. I actually prefer Taco Bell.
Instead, why not steer people down to Grand Central Market where there are two terrific stalls - Roast to Go and Anna's Gorditas (can't recall exact name right now). The ambiance and food make that experience truly memorable and unique. Cheaper too.
