First time to New York...$500.00 dollar food budget...what would you do?

Howdy Y'all.

First let me congratulate you all on such a wonderful site...it truly is amazing the feedback y'all give.

My wife and I will be traveling to NYC for the first time in a few days (Arrive FRI). We will be staying for a week.

We will be staying at the south end of Central Park (around corner from Carnegie Hall) and will be celebrating my better half's Birthday while in town. (Tuesday the 22nd)

We do not have a huge budget to eat on and back where we come from Dairy Queen is the "Fancy Restarant" in town....lol. So we are at y'alls mercy.

Our food preferences are:

Pizza
Steak
Italian (with red sauces)
Good Burgers and Shakes (lunch)
Chinese
And I LOVE salads (Ceasar and Spinach the most)

She would like to try:

Formal tea (is that what they call it?)

A brunch (no idea where to start with that)

A nice Italian Restaurant (maybe a little romantic)

A GREAT pizza place to eat out (and then take leftovers back to hotel to munch on for breakfast. Me that is...or is that considered bad manners there?)

Fun place to get a good burger and shake while sightseeing. (good burger though)

I would like to try:

A GREAT HOTDOG (y'all are famous for em right?)

A GREAT STEAK (for what we can afford)

A nice evening at a Pub/bar!! (sadly we will miss the St Pats. day parade)(we are not big drinkers but enjoy a good beer and appetizers)

Our meal budget is about 500.00 dollars for the week...I know that's only a few good suppers at some of the spots there, but that's what we got for the week.

We are pretty hardy and I'd rather go small on a few meals and be able to take her to a few nice places (that she wants, even if I miss my stuff) rather than to only kinda eat at every meal. Comes out different, but you know what I mean...lol.

We seldom eat breakfast, but usually do when on vacation. ( but a bowl of cereal or oatmeal is fine for us in the hotel (there are refrigerators where we are staying...no not mini-bars...lol) so that meal can be done inexpensively. It would be nice to try breakfast somewhere while we are there though.

OK, I'll stop now. BTW, Thank you all so much in advance! We can hardly wait to come see NYC!!!!!

Any and all ideas will be run by the boss....and we'll see what she says...lol.

Thanks again,

Tex
