I had the chance to eat at Ottos for the first time, in fact it was the first time I had eaten at one of Batalis places. I have to admit that I was a little nervous at first that I would have problems with the menu and how to order. I have read a lot of posts from people about this issue. I decided to go with the "I would rather over order than under order and have leftovers".I went for an early dinner on Saturday after a nice day at Washington Square.It was terrific! Some real highlights:
Summer Corn with Fregula- Wow, I have never had corn with such flavor. This was a great dish served cold with olive oil and fregula.
Mussels,Pepperonata- Mussels served with hot and sweet peppers. My wife loved them.
Pizza-We ordered both the Pepperoni Pizza, a recommendation of the waitress. It was great, especially if you like spicy salami. WE also ordered the Pizza Margherita. It was good, just not great.
Cacio e pepe- One of my favorite dishes. If you like it served with a little more spice, than this is the place. I was concerned about all the talk of the pasta being undercooked, but it was great. If you prefer your Cacio e pepe cheesier, than Cacio e Pepe is probably better but this was good. My wife ordered the Pasta alla Norma. Very good, just not great.
Olive Oil Gelato- Wow! I ordered the Olive Oil Coppetta, which was served with strawberries, passion fruit,salt,etc. I was nervous to try it but I can honestly say that I have never had something with so much flavor. The single best dessert I have ever had. My wife ordered the Sweet Corn Gelato which was also very good.
I was very happliy surprised with the experience and look forward to returning to sample more menu items.
