First time at Art of Pizza; millionth at Mario's

Thanks for all the tips on where to get a quick bite near Schuba's. Thick traffic on 55 between Joliet and Chicago had us running so late that we decided to forsake the opening act and stop at Art of Pizza (true 'hound behavior, eh?). My wife had a slice of stuffed sausage pizza and declared it and its tangy sauce the best she's eaten since Giordano's at 63rd and California twenty-five years ago. I went for the pan mushroom and spinach, which was less successful--not much flavor and even less tomato sauce, but maybe sauceless is how an Art's pan slice is to be. A slice of cheese thin reminded me, I hate to say, of Chuck E. Cheese's pizza. But ordering a slice is always hit-or-miss regarding freshness, right? In any case, we'll gladly return to Art of Pizza, a place we never would have known about if not for you Chicago Chowhounds, now that we know what to order.

After the show we hustled down Ashland to Mario's Italian Lemonade on Taylor St. As good as ever. For the record, Mario's hours are 10:00 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
