Everyone must go. This is a hidden gem. In East County.
We ate at Thai Time two days in a row.
Our first meal began with fresh spring rolls. They were made to order. The wrapping was not dried out or too soggy. Large flowers of green leaf lettuce burst from the top of the roll, with all the usual suspects wrapped neatly; rice noodles, shrimp, and crispy sweet bean sprouts.
I had the red curry with tofu, and my husband had the pineapple curry with duck. Both were excellent. The pineapple curry was an especially wonderful mix of citrusy sweetness and tender fatty duck. The (mild) level of chili we asked for was the perfect playground for these flavors.
Our lunch came to an appropriate finish with the triumphant trifecta of texture, temperature, and flavor, otherwise known as Mango Sticky rice. Oh my, what heaven. Cool cool slickery smooth mango with hot hot rice all tied together with a touch a sweet saucy goodness...This was the best Mango Sticky Rice we have tried.
Today, we RAN back. Started with the Yum Nua. The beef was was cut into small, thick strips, which were wonderfully tender and rich. The greens were the perfect savory blend of fresh mint, cilantro, and green onion.
I ordered the Thai Time Noodles with Tofu. The noodles were cooked perfectly, so they still had shape and life (not a droopy mess). They were tossed with carrot, bean sprouts in a light sauce, which I failed to ask about, but it tasted like a combination of sesame, soy, and maybe one other ingredient? Not sure, but it was excellent. My husband ordered the Pad Thai, yes giving in to a popular fad dish, but we have not had Pad Thai like this. The sauce was another wonderful mix of citrus and savory flavors, I was trying to figure out of she used orange juice or pineapple juice in the sauce, as it complimented the chili very well
So, good Thai. In East County.
