Tchop, tchop: Who put the Dogs Out? (Indianapolis)

Ok all 2 or 3 of you, I was caught unawares yesterday when trekking over to the Ripple for a doctor's appointment, knowing that our favorite neighborhood "dive" was closed on Tuesdays and that would be Thai Café, by the by. Soooo we zipped over to College to Charly Dog's a fave of ours (and Tosa chef Tony Hanslits as it turns out)

They've an excellent Vienna-brand Chicago-style hot dog and their combo Italian Beef/Sausage sub, while not perfected was getting close to authentic Chicagoland nirvana, if not quite up to, say, Portillo or Fluky standards. So imagine the fall of my crest as we "cased the joint" for a parking slot (I'm disabled, so it is always tough in Broad Ripple), to not that THAT was where Tchopstix's Naked outlet is planned (opening this Friday night).

Now, I'm all for the Bistro Tchoppers and hope to see them grow into their own quality and reasonable pricepoint (read that: beat the pants off the snooty Five Spicers without foregoing the requisite freshness). BUT, at the expense of the great Doghouse?!!! This is getting ridiculous. In the course of a few months, Shaffer's, Guayacan and now Charly D's. I can't believe they couldn't sell enough hot dogs to stay in business in this town. Especially with all the Chicagoans who go thru here. Yeah, I'm crying over spilt mustard!

I wanna lead a grassroots effort to get Applebees THE hell outta town, so that the those folks gotta go somewhere else in the neighborhood and pork out, preferably to a local hang. What up, y'all game? ;-)

See ya at the trough!
