I haven't been to Greece since I was 18 (30 years ago) but Taverna Kyklades took me back to the Piraeus in Athens. The warm bread and olive oil and freshly grilled pita made scooping the already delicious garlicly skordalia and fluffy taramosalata even better. The loukanika was the best grilled Greek sausage I've ever had. Then I ordered the quail. A brace would have been enough for anyone but the birds came out as 3 perfectly splayed charcoal tasting triplets. Mrs. GG's butterflied grilled snapper was so fresh I swear it was giving me the eye. My daughter's mound of tender fried calamari was bigger than her head and I was jealous of my Mom's crab stuffed shrimp despite my beautifully flakey swordfish steak. The horta (steamed dandelion greens) were like the best of spinach and broccoli rabe combined and the lemon potatoes were spectacular. A carafe of retsina cut the richness of the meal as did the complimentary galaktoboureko-the Greek equivalent of creme brulee, panna cotta, flan and baklava all rolled up into one buttery, syrupy phylo covered sweet cinnamon custardy dessert.
