Taste of Calgary

We did some volunteer work on Friday and Saturday. The tent restocking the most on Friday night was Ruan Thai. I tried their pad thai and it was tasty but not spicy at all. Really nice people. We'll give them a try. presentation of ice cream but the ice cream was quite watery when it melted. Probably needs a low fat content to freeze into those little balls.

Saturday the line-ups were too long to try some places. Ribs were very popular. Graze had the large beef ones and Belgo pork back ribs.

We had to try the takoyaki from Sushi Hai. They weren't being cooked on an iron but being kept warm on a BBQ I had my doubts but they still were good. Creamy in the middle like they should have been. My son laughed to see their menu is written in Chinese but then they are in Chinatown.

Delice Pastry had some good pakora and samosas although the latter were not as full of stuffing as when I make them at home. I think this place is worth a visit.

The poor timing award has to go to Marble Slab Creamery who were down to one flavour at 6 on Saturday. Or maybe Starbucks who were trying to give away iced drinks on Friday when we would have killed for a hot drink.

The weather affected many as the numbers were low on rainy Friday then the place was swarming on Saturday. I think a lot of restaurants were thrown off by that. One restaurant had a sign offering dried orange peel chicken but they were out when I was there.
