Taste Cafe in Pacific Grove

Just a quick note that 3 of us went to Taste Cafe in Pacific Groce two Sundays ago for a late lunch. We had the corn chowder (really should have been called cream of chicken corn chowder since the chicken base was the dominant note), the Eggplant Napolean appetizer (yummy) the grilled calamari appetizer with lemon-basil aioli (to die for - the lemon and basil were both good and strong), the burger (pronounced excellent by somebody who doesn't usually like burgers) and the Mediterranean Crabcake Sandwich. The last item was very good, but about half-way through I couldn't finish it. It almost felt like having to taste more of it would just make me sick (not a sensation I usually get when dining on good food). It was a pretty large sandwich, so I split it with the other two people who liked it very much.
The only dish we would not order again was the butterscotch pudding which was heavy and gummy. It had good flavor but it was like eating mud in terms of texture. The whipped cream topping was missing - that might have helped.
One thing that would really make this place hit a higher note - really good bread. The sandwich breads were pretty ordinary, which was a pity since the fillings were so good.
