Had a wonderful dinner at Taranta last night (210 Hanover). I've had one too many unsatisfying dining out experiences. I'm happy to report that this one was a winner from start to finish!
The food was unique and very tasty, the service was top notch. I was especially impressed by the busboy who was attentive and friendly w/o hovering (replacing an empty bread basket without being asked, even noticed when I knocked my fork off the table--instantly showing up with 2 forks, so that he could replace the right one...).
Top recs for food:
* CALZONCINI FRITTI A trio of mini calzoni stuffed with mozzarella and botija olives, beef tenderloin and baccala. Very tasty! Each one is wonderfully seasoned. The calzoni are fried, but very light.
* POLPO AL OLIVO chilled octopus and chickpea salad with an Alfonso olives sauce. Not like any octopus I've ever tasted! Tender and flavorful.
*FUSILLI AVELLINESI AL CARTOCCIO CON PANCETTA ABRUZZESE E PEPERONCINO AFFUMICATO Artisan made fusilli from Campania, baked in parchment paper with a sauce of onions, pancetta Abruzzese, roasted tomatoes and smoked sweet peppers. Bliss in a paper bag!
I also tasted the TONNO CON LA BOMBA CALABRESE ORTOPICCANTE- Pan seared tuna served over braised leeks with a sauce of sweet roasted peppers, capers and peperoncini, which was very good.
For dessert, try the LA PASTIERA NAPOLITANA-Typical Neopolitan Easter cake scented with rose water and lemon zest. Sounds simple but the infusion of flavors is insanely delicious! This one we fought over!
All in all, a very pleasant and relaxed dinner. The prices are reasonable too.
