Taqueria Traspasada's Goat Consomme

Only a scant 10-months after Seth first posted about the goat consomme at Taqueria Traspasada, I had a chance to give it a try, delicious. It wasn't for lack of trying, when he first posted I stopped by on a Thursday, but they had changed to weekend only on the goat dishes. The goat consomme was very rich with tender defatted pieces of goat meat, a few garbanzo beans and a deliciously spicy broth. The broth was a deep red color, flavorful with Mexican peppers, maybe ancho, pasillo, guajillo or a combination. Actually, the pepper blend might be entirely different, that's just my guess.

The consomme, as is the menudo, is served with a basket of cilantro mixed with onion, limes and toasted whole red peppers to crush into the broth. Taqueria Traspasada has, in addition to tacos, tortas etc, a number of weekend specials all of which looked quite good. Thanks for the recommendation Seth, next time I will try to get there a little sooner than 10-months. I will link to Seth's original Taqueria Traspasada post.

By the way, Taqueria Traspasada is next door to Carnicerias Guanajuanto, a Mexican grocery with an excellent selection of fresh meat and a so so fresh produce selection. They also have carnitas, chicharron and a counter where they serve tacos, tortas and horchata. On the weekend they have barbacoa, menudo and posole. My favorite tacos at Carnicerias Guanajuanto are the tongue (lengua) and barbacoa.
