Taqueria San Jose-San Rafael

Had a very good torta (al pastor) at Taqueria San Jose yesterday afternoon. Accompanied by an horchata and some chips from their help yourself chips and salsa bar. A nice lunch for under $5. The torta is $3.75 - griddled so it's warm on the outside.....no beans, mainly just meat and some lettuce, tomato with mayo? the al pastor really comes through - I did add some salsa to balance the richness of the meat. The chips are thin and kept under a heatlamp - a nice touch. There is a salsa cruda, a green thin avacado one, and also a blended red sauce that I didn't try. There are plastic containers that you fill as needed. It gets pretty busy there but things move along pretty well. There are 3 tables outside the main entrance that are nice because it gets a bit stuffy inside as the day wears on - and it can be a bit noisy with kids, the jukebox, the juicer grinding away and the general din of conversation. Very working class joint - very plain decor (none) but the al pastor is good enough to make this a regular stop.
