Tapestry

Tapestry is a charming bistro off of Main Street in downtown Los Gatos. The room is airy with lots of windows and access to a nice outdoor eating area. The place was initially pretty empty at 7.30 but well dressed people kept coming in all evening long. The menu is California typical with an assortment of dolled up fish, poultry and vegetarian items.
I had the veal shank over garlic mashed potatoes. the meal came in a wide bowl with still chewy veal meat taken off the bone and sitting on the somewhat coolish potatoes, topped by lightly sauteed pea shoots and babu carrots. The jus was unadulterated. The flavors were a bit bland and the dish needed salt. My dining partner had two appetizers: silver dollar sized crab cakes and garlic mein noodles. The crab cakes were small but well prepared, dense and chewy with very little filler. The noodles were cooked crisp but were addictivly chewy with enough garlic flavor to keep my interest. Here's the big news: Every Monday night every bottle of wine listed is HALF PRICE and there is no corkage fees one other night a week.
