Tacos El Coronel, Cloverdale

The newest taco truck to hit Cloverdale is a welcome addition to the local chow scene. Located in the Fast and Easy Mart gas station (across the street and a block south of the Citrus Fair), I stopped there last night to try a couple tacos. The soft tacos are a $1.50 here, rather than a buck like the trucks further south, but they’re commensurately larger with more generous meat topping, plus freshly chopped sweet onion, cilantro, and hot sauce. A wedge of lime and slices of radish complete the plate. Two were plenty for dinner.

The lengua was more like cabeza composed mostly of the smooth muscle behind the tongue rather than lengua itself. Still tasty, just not really lengua. The al pastor was even more delicious with roughly cut slices of well-browned crusty pork. On the salty side with a mildly spicy marinade, the texture and deep porkiness of the meat were impressive.

Hours are Thursday to Sunday, 5pm to 10pm. Hope this one sticks around.

The base station for this truck is Taqueria El Coronel on the Gravenstein Hwy. in Sebastopol. Haven't been there yet, but plan to check it out.
