I grew up with Taco Auctioner. It was owned by a school friends' family, and I knew the waiters and ins n outs of this place in Cardiff. The food was stellar up til about 5 years ago when it was sold (at least this is what my sources tell me).
I haven't been to SD for a couple months but was sad this past week to see Taco had passed. It's now El Callejon Del Mar, the Cardiff branch of a 7 or 9 year old Leucadia spot @ the bottom of Encinitas Blvd. and 101.
I had Mexican b-fast here, and sampled the machaca, Mexican eggs and carne asada tacos. All good, above average; the restaurant itself has been remodeled and looks like a Revolution bar. I feel like Fidels' has gown downhill the past few years, so I rate this above that but below Las Olas (where I also ate and it was great - amazing George's Margaritas).
Of course, nothing ever compares to Robertos. :)
