Sweet Potato Pie Paradise

Let me say I don't like sweet potato pie. I like pumpkin pie, but sweet potato pie is usually overly sweet, overly dense and cloying.

Having said that, I have to say Memphis Minnies sweet potatoe pie is almost in the same class as their brisket.

I don't like Minnies Banana pudding (too sweet). I think that their pecan pie is only ok (for great go to Tartine with wonderful orange zest flavor and spice. Except for that damned awful crust).

But, my goodness, I had the sweet potatoe pie for the first time tonight and I'm in heaven. Light with just the right amount of spice. A wonderful dollop of real dense, decadant whipped cream on top. If my heart stops in the next few hours due to that pie, it was worth it. My only nit would be with the crust which is not as flakey or buttery as I like it. But it was just fine.

Tommorrow I give the old diet a try again (this time through a decent doctor). My final meal, so to speak was Memphis Minnies. For that piece of pie, I salute you Minnie?
