I Survived Tripoli

Dave Feldman | Sep 29, 2000 12:50 AM

Went with a friend to Tripoli (an old haunt of hers) and it was only after the fact that I realized this was the Atlantic Ave. Lebanese reviled here. Just wanted to post an update about a perfectly adequate (if not inspired) meal I had there tonight. We ordered the Tripoli Maza. I particularly liked the babaganouj; the hommas and falaffel more than acceptable, and the cheese and olives less than acceptable. Pita tasted fresh from the, er, plastic bag.

The fatoush was sprightly, marred only by being saturated with dressing.

We both enjoyed the Sumki Hara, though, a copious portion of unknown fish filets with a spicy tomato-based sauce that included almonds and rice.

Service was extremely friendly and solicitous. With two teas, service came to $33.90.

This ain't no Kervan, but neither was it the disaster I would have expected based on the posts here. I won't go out of my way to return, but would go without a gun pointed to my head.
