May inshore shrimp season is in full swing, and local shrimpers are once again receiving record low prices for their products. If you're buying shrimp in a restaurant or seafood market, make sure it's local. Or better yet, buy direct from a fisherman. Drive out to the seafood market at the Westwego canal & Westbank Expressway, head south to Grand Isle....Rouse's and Cannata's (local supermarket chains) allow shrimpers to sell directly to customers in their parking lots.

A recent survey of my local WalMart & Winn Dixie revealed that 95% of the offered seafood was of foreign origin. 100% of the shrimp (defrosted & frozen) was imported.
