i've actually been meaning to post this for a while! several weekends ago (might have been easter weekend?) i rode my bike from conshy down to the city, stopping halfway in manayunk for a brunch-y meal. after scoping out main st in manayunk, i finally decided to stop in on a place where i'd received a friendly smile from the owner arranging chairs outside. the name of this place was fish tank on main - look for window-walls decorated with blue bubbles. i opted for a chair outside, since the weather was nice and to people-watch. turned out to be a very good solo dining spot. it's a BYO, but they brought a complimentary mimosa which was delicious.
couldn't decide what i wanted to order, and my waiter recommended a spinach and tomato frittata. this is the reason for writing this review. it was quite possibly the most fabulous breakfast food i've ever eaten in my entire life. a frittata is sort-of like an omelette, but much lighter. it was wrapped up and fried golden-brown with juicy tomatoes and fresh spinach inside. a little side of spring greens / balsamic vinagrette on the side complimented it nicely. i'd also recommend starting out with the tomato/moz salad, which i tried on a second visit. more of that yummy balsamic vinagrette here.
most of the menu is standard new-american cuisine and very reasonably priced. total bill for that frittata and a coke: $9. the lunch menu is pretty small, mostly comprised of sandwiches and pastas; and be warned: that above-mentioned frittata is only served on sundays. well worth a visit, but make it on a sunday!
