Sugarplum Bakery- Ladies Who Lunch

Twofer | Oct 24, 2002 03:44 PM

On a recent Monday, went to The Pig to try BBQ. Profound disappointment, they are closed Mondays! Being plucky lasses, we were not to be deterred from eating, and drove on blithely, looking for chow. On Beverly spotted the sign for Sugarplum Bakery, and remembering a favorable posting, dropped in. Immediately taken by the comfortable and elegant surroundings (BBQ shack this was not!) and the beautiful pastries in the large glass case. Displaying remarkable restraint, we ordered pannini first, being mindful that there were still lots of sweet goodies in the case. Although bit put off by the stack of premade sandwiches, this turned to delight as the perfectly grilled/pressed sandwiches arrived at our table with tiny French pickles. I had the pear and brie and my friend some chicken thing. We were both very pleased. Then on to dessert! She had the raspberry tart in honor of her sons, who fell in love with them on a recent trip to Paris. This compared very favorably. I was equally happy with my choices. Temptation was very strong to bring back a box of goodies for the other half of Twofer. They also have clever candies, nicely packaged, "olives" and silver almonds when you need something special as a little gift. Sugarplum Bakery, 7122 Beverly Blvd. 323-934-7900
