A heavy shadow falls upon the facade of Square One in East Hollywood. That shadow caused by a large Scientology building does not, luckily, effect the quality of the cooking. Proper french toast made with brioche with the requisite spider webbed lacing seared onto the outer shell, left a nice soft creamy interior. Brown butter, hazelnuts, and carmelized bananas were solid performers to accentuate the bread pillows. Clotted Cream was a nice touch, as I had a perfect breakfast dessert. I ordered a side of egg and a side of Nueske bacon (I needed to have something savory for breakfast) and was not dissapointed. I drank Ruby Red nectar, and it was nectar, as a juice to complement my meal. Too bad not enough breakfast establishments dont serve Nueske bacon. I like the fact that this restaurant on its chalkboard itemizes the purveyors that provide the ingredients to the menu.
A friend ordered the Chicken Sandwich, buttermilk marinated chicken breast with portabello mushroom confit, truffle aioli, gryuere cheese, arugula, and red onion on a baguette. I had a bite of this, and it was quite the tasty sandwich.
I will be back to try more.
