I had a friend in town, so my wife and I decided to take him to SQC. Although we have multiple other brunch favorites including Park Avalon and Norma's we had heard good things about SQC and decided to try it. What a mistake. Here's why:
1) The place is small and cramped. We got there early, with plenty of tables, but people could hardly fit in the small tables near the windows on Columbus Ave.
2) The waiter showed up prompty and took our orders for coffee and oj. The coffees soon arrived, as expected, but not the oj. We asked our busboy, another busboy, our waiter, and another waiter. It became so utterly ridiculous that another table asked for our oj. It finally arrived, after we had got the check! How obnoxious!
3) The food was at best mediocre, if not poor. It was billed as an interesting creative place, but the dishes did not live up to their descriptions on the menu. They sounded much better than advertised
4) After waiting half an hour for the check, we had to ask the manager for the check out of sheer frustration. After explaining how terrible our experience was, she shrugged sheepishly and said try us again. Her response for the awful service was that "the waiter was overwhelmed" and "teach him a lesson by not tipping him." She however, did not offer anyother concessions, and kept $5 small galss of OJ on the bill. She also said please try us again, don't judge on one bad experience --> Yeah right! Lousy place. Similar experiences?
