Really good south Indian is hard to find in the downtown core....cabbagetown has rashnaa..and little india has...madras dosa and multiple options. For those of us who reside a bit west of yonge..slimmer pickins.
South India Dosa Mahal however is our outpost - it lacks the renovated (semi)grace of rashnaa, the streetlife is more likely to try and sell you a bag of weed than the roasted corn you might find in little india...BUT out in the wild west - the food sings.
Exquisite Dosas and huge thali plates of beautiful and all freshly prepared curries...best of all the delicious Kothu Roti, which in my humble opinion is the best in the city - made fresh every time, judicious balance of tiny tender beef cubes, onion, egg, peppers and roti diced and seared to perfection,
Not a place to dine for a special event, the five or so cafeteria style tables don't exactly lend themselves to flowers or table linen... but for takeout....Sounth India Dosa Mahal is well worth checking out.
